Message from the Six of Pentacles

Six of Pentacles: generosity,
charity, sharing,
"If you can dream it, then you can achieve it. You will get all you want in life, if you help enough other people to get what they want."
- Zig Ziglar

A wonderful quote that highlights the need to turn competition and self-centredness into collaboration and sharing abundance.

The more you help others succeed, the more you are showing the universe that you are also worthy of success, and you will be rewarded.

"The sage never tries to store things up. The more he does for others, the more he has. The more he gives to others, the greater his abundance."
- Lao Tzu

A magickal little formula. If you haven't thought of it before, try it and let new opportunities enrich your life.

Dealing With Unemployment: The Back-To-Work Spread

dealing with unemployment the back-to-work spread
Tarot of Quotes
The current economic crisis has caused millions of people to lose their jobs. When unemployment strikes, it can easily send even the calmest and most resilient person into shock and panic.

If you find yourself in the unsettling position of "in between jobs", you know that it is most sensible to calm down after the initial upset.

Believe it or not, the Tarot can help you relax a little and be more focused on your task ahead to find a new job.

The cards have an uncanny ability to examine, empower and offer good advice on the best action to take to get yourself back into work as swiftly as possible.

Here is a simple 3-card reading you can do, if you have just lost your job and need to address the most common fears experienced in that moment:

  1. What are my prospects of finding a new job soon?
  2. Will I find a job in my current profession, or will I have to be more flexible?
  3. What can I do right now to maximise my chances to get a new job as quickly as possible?

Different cards offer different advice, and my reading is based on the cards I have drawn as follows:

4 of Swords, Page of Pentacles, Judgement (Aquatic Tarot)

1. Four of Swords

"How quickly will I find new work?" is usually the first question you will ask, when you have just lost your job. You will most likely be worrying about your outstanding bills, ongoing financial commitments etc., and wonder how long this nightmare of financial insecurity will last.

The Four of Swords indicates a time of recuperation and healing after the initial shock. You are unlikely to find a new job overnight, so be prepared and make use of your "time-out" as best as possible by looking after your health, self-esteem and explore your career options.

It also seems best for now to avoid rash decisions about getting ANY job, especially one that doesn't pay you enough to cover your monthly essential bills. This could be an irrational knee-jerk reaction leading to a much longer period of being trapped in an unrewarding position.

Perhaps you may also want to consider a change of direction. After all, loosing a job can be a blessing in disguise, especially when you have been harbouring a dream to do something entirely different. Now is a good time to think about this carefully.

2. Page of Pentacles

When unemployment is high, and a lot of people are long-term unemployed, it is very easy to think that you have to take on any kind of work as soon as possible. If you love the profession you have been working in so far, then at least for as long as your finances allow, you should focus on finding a new job in your preferred field of work

The Page of Pentacles suggests new beginnings in work, training and learning a new skill. Pages often indicate a new direction and new experiences, or at least the need to be open-minded to all possibilities. The Page is asking you to be flexible but not giving up on finding work in your current profession. You may want to consider enrolling on a course, where you can enhance your knowledge and practical skills relevant to your current profession. This will also keep you busy and motivated.

3. Judgement

Taking initiative and being proactive is the best way to beat the stress caused by unemployment. There is always something you can do to feel less powerless and more in charge of your situation, even if it's just a small step at a time, as long as you keep taking those steps every day.

In this case, Judgement is asking you not to blame yourself or others for the situation you are in. Whatever the circumstances of your job loss, blame can result in bitterness, anger and resentment, which is so damaging at a time when you are already very vulnerable to so many negative emotions.

Release the past and start afresh. Learn your lesson from your experience and move on. Your confidence may have been knocked, but keep believing in your abilities and worth. Now is a good time to consider all possibilities and stay in the driver's seat rather than waiting for opportunities to come up. It is your responsibility to make the most and best of the situation without expecting help from others.

Judgement is more about tuning your mindset into a positive get-up-and-go attitude rather than a specific practical task like going to the job centre and sign on (common sense should tell you that signing on has to be on top of your to-do list anyway ;)). Don't let blame, harsh self-criticism and lingering disappointment about your situation hold you back. Judgement heralds a new era; embrace it rather than fear it.

As you can see, the Tarot can help you focus in times of uncertainty. It often provides some clarity and encourages you to think rationally about your situation, rather than letting your anxiety get out of control.

Give this spread a try, if you are currently out of work. You can use my ebook to help you with card interpretations. And please do let me know, how useful it was for you; your feedback means a lot to me. Leave me a message in the comment box below; I'd love to hear from you.

Alternatively, you can purchase an email reading to receive impartial insight and guidance on your situation. For this reading, you will need to select the 3-card reading option.

Warmest wishes,

Christiane

SWOT Analysis Tarot Spread

If you would like to assess your potential and prospects in your current job, or want to explore, whether a new job/career move will be beneficial, then this spread can help you make a more confident decision on which direction to choose.

SWOT stands for Strengths - Weaknesses - Opportunities - Threats

Strengths and weaknesses are internal; they relate to your personality and talents; what you can bring to the work you do (or want to do), and where you may experience difficulties.

Opportunities and threats are external; they relate to what you can expect to be offered in terms of career progression, training and development, management and leadership, but also limitations that are out of your control, e.g. changes in the professions, at the workplace, company, organisation etc.

Aquatic Tarot, www.aquatictarot.de
Here is an example, how you can assess your current situation, evaluate your SWOTs and decide on the action to take:

1. Present Situation - Eight of Swords
2. Strengths - Queen of Pentacles
3. Weaknesses - The Chariot
4. Opportunities - Strength
5. Threats - Three of Wands
6. Next Step - Knight of Pentacles

1. The Eight of Swords suggests limitations and restrictions in the current work/career environment.Feelings of frustration about being stifled and blocked. At the same time, this also seems like a comfort zone; familiarity with the difficulties encountered, which are used as protection against unknown possibilities. Fear of change, which needs to be overcome.

2. Queen of Pentacles strengths: reliable, practical, hands-on approach, productive, efficient, disciplined, taking pride in her work and loving it; creative; patient and determined to succeed. Enjoys working on her own, but can also be a nurturing and supportive leader.

3. Chariot weaknesses: restless, getting easily bored, sometimes ruled by emotions, moody, clingy, insecure, disliking change and upheaval, can get stressed easily, lacking control and foresight; giving up quickly, not persevering.

4. Strength opportunities: an inspiring manager, mentor or guide may offer opportunities in developing confidence and leadership qualities; possibilities of promotion and a strong position in the future.

5. Three of Wands threats: aspirations and ambitious goals may be out of reach; unrealistic expectations, misjudgement, lack of focus and direction; business may not achieve success it hoped for; slow reaction to changing markets and demands.

6. The Knight of Pentacles suggests to stay put, but also be open-minded about the future; keep watching changing markets, economy, within the workplace and changes of customers' needs and demands; act quickly, if necessary. Short-term there are good opportunities to hone skills, knowledge and experience to become more confident to make a move when the time is right. Investing in training and perhaps even a mentor will sow the seeds for accelerating career advancement. Utilise strengths to alleviate weaknesses; try to avoid moodiness and find ways to relax and unwind to increase resilience when under pressure. Patience, hard work, determination and perseverance will pay off.

As you can see, the SWOT analysis spread can give some useful insight. Why don't you give it a try to assess your work situation?

If you have just started learning the Tarot, you may want to use my ebook as a guide to help you interpret the cards. Alternatively, you can request a career reading by e-mail.

Warmest wishes,

Christiane

The Fool At Work

Fool, Aquatic Tarot, www.aquatictarot.de
The Fool, Aquatic Tarot
"Living on the edge is perilous, but the view is breathtaking."

The Fool is a wonderful image of new beginnings and adventure. Here we see a flamboyantly dressed figure standing by the edge of a cliff on a journey into the unknown. The Fool is taking in the view, and it is up to us to imagine what he sees.

The Fool in a business reading indicates a new job, a new project, perhaps working with new colleagues ...any change in the workplace that holds new opportunities and possibilities yet to be revealed.

You don't know what the future holds, or what the consequences of the changes taking place will be, but the Fool is asking you to be open-minded and optimistic.

The Fool can also indicate that you are ready for a change, there is that urge inside you to start afresh, and there is no better moment than the present.

There are risks involved, of course, but is up to you to overcome your fears and take the plunge into a new direction. It would be naive to assume that there won't be obstacles and hiccups along the way, but that shouldn't put you off. Have faith in yourself that you can overcome the ups and downs in your new venture.

If you are currently stuck in a job you don't like, the Fool is asking you to bear it with a cheerful personality rather than openly expressing your frustrations amongst colleagues.

Avoid nagging, complaining and indulging in malicious, unproductive gossiping. Instead, be happy-go-lucky, friendly, enthusiastic, supportive, professional and take pride in doing a good job.

Spread positive vibes!

Just remember that your current job is just a stepping stone towards something better; new opportunities will present themselves shortly, or you can initiate them.

When you are faced with a new situation, try not to have any pre-conceived ideas. Leave past experiences behind. In the image, we can see the Fool has packed what he needs (not much!) in his little pack tied on a stick. Especially when past experiences were negative, they can be limiting to you right now.

The Fool is linked to the element air, which is associated with intellect, logic and reason. The Fool's positive attitude is a mindset that is beneficial to you, when this card comes up in a reading:

  • In business meetings and discussions: be genuinely open to suggestions, rather than dismissive.
  • Consider giving a new employee or colleague a chance you wouldn't have at other times.
  • Say 'yes' rather than 'no'.
  • Be flexible.
  • Try something new you haven't tested before.
  • Think outside the box, or just think outside :)
  • A training course may offer you more new knowledge and benefits than you think. Sign up for it and enjoy!
  • Business trips and travel will help you network and establish new and useful business contacts.
  • Be excited about new beginnings and the possibilities they present, especially changes you didn't chose or think you don't want.

But don't be gullible either! That get-rich-quick scheme someone is trying to persuade you to participate in, is rubbish and a con, and you know it :)

The Fool is a Hippy at heart and guided instinctively into the right direction. Take his qualities on board to make the most of changes around you, and welcome new, exciting experiences and challenges into your life.

Warmest wishes,

Christiane

Magickal Marketing using the Four Elements

Each card in a Tarot deck is assigned to one of the four prime elements: fire, water, air and earth. We can find these components all around us and even within us. Humans consist of fire (body temperature), water (fluids), air (breath) and earth (skin, bones, hair).

In ancient times, alchemists and philosophers put great emphasis on the necessity to keep these four elements well balanced within the human body, so it can function properly and develop a healthy spirit (the fifth element).

When we start to get to know the four elements in more detail, we can focus on creating a well-balanced mix in all aspects of our lives to create harmony.

Let's take a look at the task of marketing. By adding some esoteric knowledge to marketing, we can make it magickal.

If you are working in a Marketing department of a company, or you are promoting your own business, you will achieve better results by applying a well-balanced mix of the four elements to your campaign.

Fire

Fire is the life giving element, and in Tarot it is assigned to the suit of Wands. The spark, idea, inspiration, ambition, drive and urge; to imagine and create.

When you market yourself or a product/service, the fire element helps you in your creative work and provides you with the drive and enthusiasm to initiate and sustain action.

At this stage you start imagining how you would want this campaign to look and feel. You come up with ideas of artistic work (logos, images, banners), slogans, brand image, types of campaigns, marketing materials etc. that will attract attention from your potential customers.

Fire energies to focus on:

Let your creative imagination run wild. Try out different styles and angles to see what works best to achieve the results you want. Be innovative; create something unique rather than imitating others.

Water

Water is the element of feelings and emotions. In Tarot it is assigned to the suit of Cups. With the water element you are putting your heart and soul into the campaign. If you are not convinced of your abilities or the product you are trying to sell, then your marketing efforts may not work out.

Water is helping you to get emotionally involved with your business, product and service. It is important you can relate to your product / brand / service on an emotional level, you can identify with it, and it reflects your personality.

At this stage you start engaging with your target audience to demonstrate benefits and advantages of your product and how it can help them or give them what they need.

Water energies to focus on:

Be authentic. Love the work you do and the gifts you have to offer to the world. Connect and engage with your potential customers on an emotional level. Build relationships that are mutually beneficial. Tune in, listen and care.

Air

Air is the element of logic, reason, intellect and communication. In Tarot it is assigned to the suit of Swords. With air you evaluate your campaign and fine-tune it. You also look at possible obstacles or risks that stop your customers making a purchase.

Air helps you to focus on clarity, offer reassurances by providing as much information as you can, guarantees, testimonials etc., and develop new strategies with specific goals. Air also assists with managing and resolving conflict and pitfalls.

At this stage you focus on knowledge and problem-solving to convince your potential customers that your product or service is right for them and will satisfy their needs.

Air energies to focus on:

Provide free knowledge and information for your target audience to generate trust in your abilities. Focus on building a reputation as an authority in your field of work. Offer product samples and aim to identify and remove any obstacles that could stop a purchase.

Earth

Earth is the grounding element; in the Tarot it is associated with the suit of Pentacles. With the earth element you create stability, permanence and sustainability. At this stage, your campaign starts to pay off, and you can build on that.

Now that your target audience is aware of your product / service / brand and feel comfortable with it, they are prepared to take action and buy. Good news, but you have to be persistent and continue with your campaign until you have reached a level, which generates a regular stream of customers, and this  may take a while.

Earth energies to focus on:

Don't give up after initial success. You need to be persistent and put effort into your campaign on a regular basis. Posting one advert / social media message / promotion isn't enough; you need to get your message out there continuously. Your customers aren't always ready to buy when they see your messages. Keep going, and one day they will. Now is also a good time to set a realistic marketing budget to sustain your campaign and generate more sales.

Please note that you have to apply a mix of the above elements to your campaign rather than focusing on each one at a time. But of course, you will notice that sometimes you need a little more fire than water, or a little more air than earth - this is where it becomes magickal! Get the mix right, and you create harmony.

Applying the four elements to your marketing work also connects well with the traditional AIDA marketing concept:

A - Attention (Fire)
I - Interest (Water)
D - Desire (Air)
A - Act (Earth)

Mix this traditional concept with a little woo-woo elemental Magick, and you will become more aware of the spiritual aspect of your work and its connection with natural cycles and energies, making it more holistic. And once you include your soul and spirit in your work, you will start to become more successful.

Business Tarot Inspiration: Integrity

“A little integrity is better than any career.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

Justice in Tarot symbolises fairness, objectivity, responsibility, truth, reasoning and the law.

It also stands for integrity.

Integrity is a magic key that attracts success in your working life.

Integrity is about being true to your values, beliefs and identity.

It's about doing the right thing, because you know it's right.

It's standing up for justice, truth and honesty, even if it means you are standing alone or ruffling some feathers. Even if you may have to face difficulties as a result.

Having the courage to say no. Being happy to turn down offers and opportunities that don't comply with your values, beliefs and true self.

Being authentic, genuine, pure, trustworthy.

Without integrity you will lose respect and earn a bad reputation.

When was the last time your integrity was tested in your working life? How did you respond? What were the consequences, and how did it affect you?

Tarot Magick: Use the image of the Justice card as a meditation tool, if you are having to deal with issues of integrity at work. Keep it in a prominent place and look at it often as a reminder to do what is right and follow your true path with conviction.

Warmest wishes,

Christiane

Love The Work You Do

I have just returned from a fabulous holiday, and while I was enjoying magical landscapes and the surprisingly sunny weather in the northern parts of the UK, my head kept buzzing with all sorts of creative ideas to do with my business ventures.

You see, I love the job and the work I do. I could work 24/7 and not regard it as work but pleasure, even though admittedly it's not all rosy, and I do encounter a fair share of irritations along the way (check out Theresa Reed's excellent article 8 Hard Truths About Being A Tarot Reader).

And here's your exploration for today:

Take a look at the image of the Sun; do you feel as joyful as the child when you think of your working life?

Whether you are self-employed or working for a company, remember it doesn't have to be perfect, but your work should fulfil most if not all of the following needs:

  • prospects and career development
  • opportunities to fulfil your potential
  • a sense of purpose
  • flexibility (time and hours)
  • healthy work/life balance
  • being valued, respected and encouraged
  • earning a fair income (one that nurtures and sustains you)
  • being empowered
  • a good level of autonomy and self-determination
  • to make the most of your abilities and intelligence
  • to be able to embrace change with optimism rather than fear
  • feed your confidence and self-esteem

Which of your needs are fulfilled? Which ones are neglected? Make notes on what changes you would like to implement in order to improve your working life. Explore which skills or personal qualities you need to make use of or develop in order to achieve them.

If you are looking to make positive changes to your working life, the Sun is asking you to focus on the following key qualities:

  • confidence
  • self-worth
  • optimism
  • joyfulness

  • In astrology, the sun rules the ego and its key phrase is "I am". Quite literally this means "looking after no. 1" rather than neglecting your core needs for the benefit of others.

This doesn't mean that it's okay to be outrageously selfish and ruthless, but if you feel undervalued, underpaid, overlooked, overruled, sidelined and generally loosing out in your current occupation, then deep down you know this cannot continue and you have to do something about it.

Equally, if you are stuck in a boring, tedious job that doesn't nurture your soul and spirit, then it's also time to make plans and take action to improve your working life. It's time to stop finding excuses for your situation.

But if you feel insecure and lack confidence, this can be difficult to do.

The trick is to start changing your mindset and keep focusing on your new empowering way of thinking:

    • raise your expectations - expect the best - expect your needs to be fulfilled
    • start believing in your talents and abilities - know your worth and take action (training, mentoring, etc.) to increase it
    • spread happiness - take pride in your work - smile (even if you don't always feel like it)

Have you sometimes wondered why some people are so successful compared to others?

They may not be that talented, they may even be rubbish managers or disastrous CEOs, but what they do have is a a positive mindset about themselves; they feel deserving of the best and believe in themselves. With that attitude they get others to believe in them, too, thus becoming successful business leaders, artists, therapists, sales people etc.

So, this is your first lesson from the Sun:

Focus on developing its four key qualities within yourself by adopting a new positive mindset of raising your expectations and believing in yourself. Perform your work joyfully, even if you don't always feel like it.

As long as you are determined and persist, you will notice improvements sooner than you think.

What can you learn from the Sun to start improving your working life today?

    Warmest wishes,

    Christiane
